YDance (Scottish Youth Dance) – the national dance organisation for children and young people in Scotland – and Scottish Ballet are looking for dancers aged 14 to 21 and over 60 to join a free intergenerational dance company in Perth and Kinross.
Reflections Dance Company is part of the wider Generation Dance Festival run by YDance and Scottish Ballet. As a group, participants will work with a professional dance artist to create a dance piece to perform in the Generation Dance Festival at Tramway, Glasgow this August. The performance is supported by Festival 2018, the innovative and inclusive cultural programme of the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.
As well as Perth and Kinross, Reflections groups will also follow the sport, running in three other areas across Scotland where the Championships are being held: Stirling, Edinburgh and West Dunbartonshire. Reflections is suitable for anyone with a passion for dance and a desire to perform.
Anna Kenrick, Artistic Director of YDance said:
“YDance is very excited to be involved in the Generation Dance Festival in partnership with Scottish Ballet. The show, Letters to my Shadow, will be performed by The Generation Performance Company comprising of dancers from the Scottish Ballet Elders Company, the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland, and Scottish Ballet Youth Exchange. This first-time collaboration will make for an uplifting, emotional and celebratory show using personal stories from the group. The Generation Performance Company will be joined by the four Reflections intergenerational groups on stage at the Tramway as part of the Festival 2018 programme.”

Lorraine Jamieson, Education Creative Director at Scottish Ballet said:
“The Education Team at Scottish Ballet are thrilled to be part of this exciting project. It will be great to work with different groups across Scotland, and then see them all come together at the Festival in Glasgow in August. We’d love to see young people take part with a grandparent or other older relative – it’s a golden opportunity for two different generations to work on a fun project together.”
The first session will be held in Perth Theatre on Sunday 29th April from 10am – 2pm, with further sessions from 10am - 4pm on Sunday 13th May, Sunday 3rd and Sunday 10th June. Performance rehearsals will also be held at Scottish Ballet, Glasgow on Thursday 26th – Saturday 28th July, and at Tramway, Glasgow from Monday 30th July – Wednesday 1st August. The Generation Dance Festival performance will be held at Tramway on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd August. As this is a performance opportunity, participants must be able to attend all dates.
Anyone interested in taking part can sign up at www.ydance.org, call the YDance office on 0141 552 7712 or just turn up on the first date.
Reflections is also partnered with Macrobert Arts Centre, West Dunbartonshire Council, Edinburgh City Council, and Perth and Kinross Council.
