In Conversation with...
Sir Ian Rankin & Joyce Caplan
A fundraising lunch to support Perth Theatre’s leading role in the community
and Scottish Arts Trust’s focus on emerging talent

Fri 17 May 2024
12:00 – 15:00
Joan Knight Studio, Perth Theatre

Brought to life in partnership with the Scottish Arts Trust, In Conversation with... is a series of exclusive and intimate fundraising lunches supporting Perth Theatre’s outreach work in the community.

Scottish crime writer Sir Ian Rankin needs no introduction! His Rebus novels have been translated into 35 languages and topped bestseller lists across the world. He has written plays, standalone novels and non-fiction, presented a TV show and even collaborated with singer Jackie Leven on a CD.

Known to Perth Theatre audiences as the founder – along with Gail Wylie – of the Perth Theatre Season Subscription Theatre Talks, Joyce Caplan is Chair of the Scottish Arts Club Theatre Awards. Her involvement with theatre began as a student when she ran the book stall in the newly opened Nottingham Playhouse. At university she acted (badly) in Brecht and Shakespeare but was of course hooked on the magical transformation theatre creates for both actors and audience. Joyce is also a teaching fellow at Edinburgh University in Scottish Literature.

In conversation with Joyce, Sir Ian will discuss the life and times of his famed creation DI John Rebus, who returns to our TV screens in 2024 after a long hiatus.

Enjoy a delicious lunch sponsored by Simon Howie and drinks reception from Perth Gin, as you discover the story of a Scottish fictional icon, served with a generous helping of humour and warmth.

The event will feature a raffle for some unique prizes.

There will also be a book-signing with copies of Sir Ian’s books available to purchase.
