Over the past 30 years the Czech National Symphony Orchestra has grown to become one of the leading Czech ensembles, currently ranking among the most highly sought-after orchestras in Europe. Its glowing reputation can be attributed to the members’ versatility, performing a wide range of genres, spanning classical works, film music and jazz, as well as musicals, which attract large domestic and international audiences. Their distinguished American conductor Steven Mercurio leads the orchestra with a mixed programme which starts with an iconic Czech work by Smetana, his famous evocation of the river Moldau. This will be followed by the leading Israeli pianist Alon Kariv giving a performance of Tchaikovsky’s passionate and much-loved First Piano Concerto. The orchestra are famous for performing certain jazz repertoire in their classical programmes and they’ll be performing Jerry Goldsmith’s film noir jazz piece from his music for the film Chinatown. This will be followed by Piazzolla’s ever popular Libertango and the concert will end in exciting style with Tchaikovsky’s famous music that dramatically portrays Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. £42.50, £33.50, £31, £23.50; Disabled/Unwaged/Students £39.50, £30.50, £28, £20.50 (inc £2.50 booking fee per ticket); Under 18s £5
