This is a Perth Festival of the Arts event. Opera Bohemia, Scotland’s professional touring company, joins forces with Amicus Orchestra, to present Puccini’s heart rending Suor Angelica. It has been seven years since Sister Angelica gave birth to a child out of wedlock and was forced by her family to join a convent. Her aunt, a Princess, visits with news that leads to a tragic turn of events. This is one of Puccini’s most deeply emotional operas; be sure to bring your tissues! Directed by Douglas Nairne, this touching new production will draw in the sacred atmosphere of St. Ninian’s Cathedral. A stellar cast is led by South African soprano Sarah-Jane Brandon, whose career has seen her perform leading roles at Glyndebourne, ENO, and across Europe. The cast also includes Scottish soprano Monica McGhee (who starred as Tosca for Opera Bohemia), former Scottish Opera Emerging Artist Louise Collett and Sioned Gwen Davies, who represented Wales at the 2017 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World. Alistair Digges conducts Puccini’s sensitive and moving score, which includes the famous aria Senza Mamma’ Sung in Italian with English surtitles, running time approximately 70 minutes. 19:00: Pre-opera Director’s Talk (Tickets required; a ticket to the talk is included in a premium seating (Zone A) ticket to the opera). £30, £25, £22.50, £19.50; DisabledUnwagedStudents £28, £23, £20.50, £17.50 (inc £2.50 booking fee per ticket); Under 18s £5 Carers go free when accompanying the person they care for
